  6. Two medium chopped tomatoes
  7. One green chilli
  8. 1 tsp cumin seeds
  9. 1 tsp ground coriander
  10. 1 tsp ground cumin
  11. 1 tsp garam masala (available in most grocery stores)
  12. ½ tsp turmeric powder
  13. Salt (to taste, it may vary according to individual preferences)
  14. Half cup of heavy cream or coconut milk for creaminess

Step by step procedure to prepare saag spinach recipe

  1. First, we have to wash the spinach thoroughly and ensure no sand or dirt available on the leaves. Then keep the leaves in boiling water for 2 to 3 minutes.
  2. Remove the water and blend into a smooth puree. You can also skip puree if you like to take the spinach in chunks.
  3. Heat the olive oil/ghee in a pan. Add cumin seeds, onions and fry until it reaches golden brown colour.
  4. Now add garlic, ginger, and green chili and cook it for 1 to 2 minutes. After that add tomatoes and cook until they soften.
  5. To have an additional flavour we need to add coriander, cumin, turmeric, salt and mix it well.
  6. Now add the spinach puree and let it cook for 5 to 7 minutes so that the flavours combine well.
  7. Add garam masala and heavy cream/coconut milk and let it cook for another 2 to 3 minutes.
